ENEMIES OF MONEY IN MARRIAGE
Money has so many enemies in marriage. These enemies affect the way money is made at home, the way it is spent or wasted. It also empowers money to deeply hurt any marriage. This is why money is one of the major causes of divorce in the world today.
- Planless spending. Majority of couples I know have no budget, they resort to rainfall spending, spending and spending as it comes without any plan or order. This is very dangerous.
What to do: Have a family budget and stick to it. It is to your benefit and the good of your family.
- Too many responsibilities. Some couples have eight children to cater for,coupled with nephews, cousins, brothers and sisters are living with them. Their income is not increasing but their responsibilitiesare increasing by the day. There is no way progress will be made in these kinds of homes.
What to do: Give birth to only the number of children you can adequately cater for. Don’t be afraid to reject “heavy load” from your extended family, if they suggest that their children should live with you.
- Irresponsibilities. It is totally wrong for a partner (man most especially) not to be responsible at home. Relying solely on the wife’s income at home with the lazy or stingy man doing nothing will definitely impede family progress.
What to do: Everybody should read ‘1 Timothy 5:8’ and know that it is compulsory to contribute to the progress of the family. Any money you make is for the family. Provide adequately for your family.
- Partying. Merry making, night crawling, clubbing, etc are anti-prosperity habits in marriage. It is not every birthday that should be celebrated. You have to be wiser and provide for the future.
What to do: Have you ever gained anything from clubbing and partying? Certainly not. You only lose money there. So stop it before it stops you. “He that loveth pleasure shall be poor man. He that loveth wine and oil shall not be rich”. Proverbs 21:17
- Drug addiction. It is costly to maintain a lifestyle bound by drug addiction. It destroys its host and melts the bond of love in any family
What to do: Break any stronghold of drugs in your life. Seek professional and spiritual help before you make a shipwreck of your future.
- Pride. Proud people always want to show-off. They always want to buy what they cannot afford to show that they are big.
What to do: Humble yourself in the sight of God, walk at your own pace. Don’t pretend to be who you are not.
- Lack of Unity. Success in the family is a product of the joint efforts of the people involved without which progress will be difficult.
What to do: Work in unity in your marriage, build together, work together, make it teamwork.
- Secrecy. One of the major causes of disunity at home is secrecy. When you begin to hide your income from your spouse or give secret support to your extended family, you have already sown the seed of discord in your home that may destroy your family finance.
What to do: Have a joint goal, joint focus, joint effort. Speak with one voice because you have a joint future.
- Lying. This also contributes immensely to disunity at home and it affects family life as it leads to lack of trust.
What to do: Say the truth always to your spouse.Don’t tell lies, be open, be transparent.
