Faces Of Intimacy In Marriage 2
Bisi Adewale
Intimacy is one of the key to a blissful marriage but if the faces listed below are not well understood it will turn the marriage into a problematic one.
1. Social Intimacy. This involves being friends and having the same set of friends. It has to do with living together as friends, liking each other, not just loving each other, playing together, spending adequate time together, attending social events together, becoming each other’s best friend.
(Song of Solomon 8:1-2)
2. Intellectual Intimacy. This is not about discussing highly intellectual ideas or attending the same university. It simply means sharing your thoughts about things around you; children, crime, politics, sports, finances, health, fashion, job, etc. (Song of Solomon 2:14)
This will give you a lot of information as you get to know how your spouse generally sees life.
3. Vocational Intimacy. This involves more than working together in the same place, doing the same business or being in the same profession. It is about sharing your mind about your jobs or career. Getting to know one or two things about your spouse’s job, office, colleagues, challenges, promotion, problems, success, etc in the place of work. Generally carrying each other along as far as your jobs are concerned. (Song of Solomon 7:11-12)
4. Domestic Intimacy. It involves jointly keeping the home on its feet by doing things together.
A situation whereby the woman is left alone to cook, wash, brush, boil, fry, scrub, carry the baby, change diapers, bath the older ones while the husband lounges in front of the television, surfs the web as he waits for the meal to be served, is pathetic.
