Why People Fail in Marriage

Escaping failure in marriage is not feasible when one is ignorant of the real cause of failure. One wise man said, “If you don’t learn from the failure of others, you are permitting people to learn from your failure. Let us examine the reasons other people failed, then try as much as possible to avoid them. If your marriage is already faltering, use this check-list to know where the problem lies and learn how to overcome them. If your marriage is healthy, take your time to learn from the problems of others and ensure your marriage remains healthy.
SPIRITUAL FACTORS
Let’s check all the spiritual factors that can make a marriage fail.
1. Absence of the presence of God. When Christ is missing in a home, crisis is imminent. It is easier for the devil to destroy a home if Jesus is not the master of that home. All it takes darkness to reign is the absence of light. When couples are not born again they’ve mortgaged their homes to the devil and are doomed to experience a failed marriage.
2. Disobedience to God’s commandments. When God cannot reign in a home, He will not be there. As soon as a family begins to disobey God, denying Him of His rights in any home, disobeying biblical injunctions in their day to day life, then they’ve registered their homes for an eventual collapse.
Solution: Are you fully sold out to the Bible? Are you obeying God? Nothing destroys a home like disobedience to God. Check every area where you’ve not been yielding to God and His words, begin to obey Him and protect your home from destruction.
3. Dead spiritual life. When your spiritual life is vibrant, it will reflect on your actions and reactions to issues at home. It will also show in your relationship with your spouse. As soon as your relationship with God begins to shake, the ripple effect is seen in all your relationships, especially in dealings with your spouse. The rate at which you become angry, unforgiving, allow fights, keep malice, bitter, etc are all indications that something is wrong.
Solution: Check your prayer life, Bible study life, fellowship with God and brethren, hunger for God, and your thirst for His presence. When you discover that any of these is sick, the root of the problems in your marital life cannot be farfetched. By returning to the Lord in fear and humility, your marriage will become better and vibrant.
