THEY ARE WATCHING YOU
Set the right examples for your Children because they are watching you.
It was James Baldwin who said “Children have never been very good at listening to their elders, but they have never failed to imitate them.”
A man who was on vacation with his household walked out of his Camp house in a beach very early in the morning leaving his family who were still sleeping behind.
Hours later, his five year old boy woke up only to discover his Father’s absence and he set out to look for him. Without a mobile phone network on this beach, this seems to be practically impossible as the beach was a vast area running into several kilometres. Despite all odds, the boy got to where his Father was 30 minutes later.
His Father was very surprised to see his little Son and queried him about how he was able to locate him. What he told his Dad is a food for thought for all Parents.
He said “Dad, when I woke up and didn’t find you I set out to look for you by all means, what I did was to look for your footsteps and follow it carefully till I got here, I know there is no way to walk on the beach without leaving your footsteps”
The punch line in a cartoon reads, ‘’No matter what we teach our children, they insist on behaving just like us!’’ One expert says, ‘’We teach what we know, but we reproduce what we are.’’
Dear Listener,
Your children may sometimes doubt what you say, but they will always believe what you do. So, note the following:
1) If you want them to have a quiet time with God, you have one.
2) If you want your children to be in church, take them, don’t send them.
3) If you don’t want your children using foul language, watch what comes out of your mouth.
4) If you don’t want your children to smoke, drink, or do drugs, you leave all these negative vices too.
When you say one thing but do another; your children may still love you, but eventually they’ll lose respect for you. And what’s worse, they’ll think, ‘If the principles you preach don’t work for you, why should I try them?’
Your example will have more impact than all your exhortations. Read these two Scriptures carefully. The first is found in the Old Testament: 1 Chronicles 26:4 it states ‘’He did what was right in the eyes of the LORD, just as his father…had done.’’
The second is found in the New Testament 2 Timothy 1:5 it reads: ‘’I am reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also’’ (2 Timothy 1:5)
Thousands of years separate those two Scriptures, but the truth is, what they teach is timeless.
They are watching you, if they do what you are doing now, will it be well with them tomorrow?
