Commitment implies someone will do something or must do something. Commitment in marriage means readiness to do everything to make your marriage work.
Marriage is not a contract, it is a commitment.
WHAT IS COMMITMENT IN MARRIAGE
- Courtship is a process of selecting the person you are going to commit yourself to the marriage ceremony is a public act of that commitment.
- It is the act of giving oneself to another person completely.
- The word ‘commit’ is a verb and it means “to do” and “to perform”.
- Commitment is the only thing that can carry a relationship and keep it alive when romantic feelings are at a low ebb.
- Commitment is unconditional
- When commitment is missing, marriage is on its way to the grave
- Marriage is a calling to commitment
- Commitment involves action.
- We must constantly fight to keep the commitment in our marriage
- Wrong association and information can destroy commitment.
- Commitment needs positive thinking
- The marriage commitment is both Holy and practical
- Our marriage vows and commitment to them is very important to God.
- Commitment requires prayer
- Commitment requires wisdom
- It is based on faith in the Lord Jesus.
WONDERS OF COMMITMENT IN MARRIAGE
- It gladdens the heart of God
- It sustains marriage
- It is the marriage life insurance
- It is not based on emotion and therefore stable
- It restores marriage in times of crises
- It is a good example for the children
- It aids the couple to make sacrifices
- It aids positive action and reaction
HOW TO DEVELOP THE ACT OF COMMITMENT
- Know that it is the best thing for you and your spouse
- Accept your partner as he/she is.
- Pray for the grace to be committed to your marriage
- Break all associations that negate commitment in marriage
- Get information that will aid your commitment to your marriage
- Break the bridge behind you. Never consider divorce, no matter what happens
- Develop great faith in God and in your spouse
- Trust your partner with all your heart.
- Be content with who he/she is, what he/she can offer and how he/she looks.
- Never compare your spouse with anybody
- Stop criticizing your spouse
- Be given to generous appreciation and commendation
- Build togetherness.
- Pray for your spouse always.
- Communicate your dream, desire, aspiration and fantasy with your spouse.
- Think positively about him/her.
- Reject any evil thought
- Close your ear and heart to gossips.
