ROMANCE CLASSIFICATION OF MARRIAGE
Let us classify marriages based on romance:
- 1. Traumatic marriages: In this kind of marriage, couples are living like cat and mouse. They see each other as enemies, they fight, they embarrass each other, overlook good deeds, nag, refuse to forgive, deny each other sex, retaliate, hate each other with a passion, keep records of hurts, keep malice, and they prefer staying in the office than at home.
A traumatic marriage makes nobody happy except the devil; the woman is not at rest, the husband is tensed up, the children are living like refugees, and God is not at home in the house.
- Electronic marriage: This is the kind of marriage where the husband and wife stay in different towns for one reason or the other but only communicate through phone calls, E-mails, text messages, fax, and letters. No matter the number of phone calls and mails a couple send to each other everyday, it does not equate a face to face discussion, recreation, companionship, and friendship. Marriage suffers a great deal when couples are not together, it allows romance to die, gives room for unfaithfulness, distrust, loneliness, separation, resentment, and anger.
- Plastic Marriage: Most couples were friends before they became lovers, but after the wedding, they abandoned friendship, companionship, romance, and affection. They become routine husbands and wives; the man gives the money, the woman does the cooking. They talk only on general things like the children’s school fees, electricity bills, food allowance; no love, no attention and affection. They make love like goats do; without passion, without interaction, no communication. They fight seriously before ‘he’ can “conquer” his woman. Most couples are not friends; they only have a “matrimonial relationship”. They live together as co-tenants, or close neighbours; intimacy is abstract. In fact, some live together as total strangers, without love, openness, acceptance and celebration.
- Romantic Marriage: This is a marriage that involves deep intimacy, recreation, interaction, affections, romance, passion, friendship, companionship and total commitment. This is a marriage that still remains a love affair despite the years. It is the only marriage that greatly satisfies God.
