FIVE PHASES OF MARRIAGE (PART 1)
FIVE PHASES OF MARRIAGE (PART 1)

By Bisi Adewale
Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus; Who was faithful to him that appointed him, as also Moses was faithful in all his house. For this man was counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as he who hath builded the house hath more honour than the house. For every house is builded by some man; but he that built all things is God (Hebrews 3:1-4 KJV).
There are steps to take to build a house. These are necessary for a good house to be built. Marriage like a house has processes and phases that must be followed step by step if a joyful home is your desire. Note that the steps are all important; none should be taken with levity.
FIRST PHASE – IMAGINATION
A good marriage starts with the thought of having a good home and family life, including how to have it.
Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life (Proverbs 4:23).
Have a good and godly thinking, seeing you having a great marriage and going all out to take very godly steps to fulfil it. Think rightly. Don’t ever imagine yourself having a bad marriage because your parents are having difficulties in their marriage. A bad marriage is not hereditary; no, you don’t have to inherit an evil marriage. So sanctify your thoughts and cleanse your imagination. Let your mind be at rest. A great marriage starts from the mind of people involved; think right about your marriage, opposite sex, in-laws, love and family life.
SECOND PHASE – PREPARATION
For a marriage to be successful there must be adequate preparation, because this determines the outcome.
The ants are a people not strong, yet they prepare their meat in the summer; The conies are but a feeble folk, yet make they their houses in the rocks; The locusts have no king, yet go they forth all of them by bands; The spider taketh hold with her hands, and is in kings’ palaces (Proverbs 30:25-28).
Prepare for marriage not just for wedding. The preparations of the heart in man, and the answer of the tongue, are from the Lord (Proverbs 16:1 KJV).
- Prepare by developing a relationship with God.
- Prepare for tomorrow by attending a school or learning a trade, success is in learning.
- Prepare by learning what it means to be a wife.
- Prepare by learning what it means to be a husband.
- Prepare by learning what it means to be a father and mother.
Prepare to serve; don’t look forward to be served.
