MONEY AND MARRIAGE MASTER CLASS: LESSON 15

Dangers Of Rainfall Spending For Your Family 2
Bisi Adewale

In the last article, I told you the story of Owolabi the village millionaire and the present state of his life.
This is the second part of the story, relax and enjoy it. Like I said last week, there are many Owolabi in many of us, many are financial illiterate, knows close to nothing about money management.
The problems with Owolabi and many folks like him is what I called “Rainfall Spending” as a family finance expert. This has to do with losing your head whenever you have money in your pocket spending lavishly until you exhaust the money, going cap in hand to beg for money, borrowing or buying things on credit.
While Owolabi spend his own money lavishly during cocoa season, most people spend lavishly during pay period only to suffer from 15th of the month till another pay day.
I once worked in a construction company in Lagos. In my first month in the place, I noticed a huge crowd by the gate around 27th of the month, these people were later explained to be creditors who were waiting for the workers of that company having been informed that salaries will be paid that day. They all came with their records, majority of them are food sellers, alcohol and cigarette sellers.
In fact, prostitutes were not left behind (so people do that kind of thing on credit too you would say).
My people, you need to check yourself and know the kind of spender you are, you are either a wise spender or a rainfall spender.

? Wise Spenders. Have plans for their money, they know when income is coming in and plan their lives based on that. They give room for savings and investments. They don’t spend more than it is expected even when unexpected “rainfall” of money happens. They are wise.

? Rainfall Spenders. No plan, no vision, no budget, they spends according to the income available.
They are always broke before every pay day.
