The effect of choice in any marriage is very important because what builds a marriage is the foundation on which it was founded.

  • Our life is the total sum of our choices.
  • Your choice determines your chance.
  • God must be involved in our choices if we must live in peace.
  • Our choices must be prayerfully made.
  • There are three important choices in our lives that must be made with care:

(a) The choice of whom to serve- (salvation) – God or devil?

(b) The choice of whom to marry.

(c) The choice of what to do (career).

  • Marital choice must not be based on lust, pity, beauty, money, position, success, selfish motives, wealth etc.
  • There is that God’s perfect and destined partner for your life (Gen 24:12-14)

Before you think of choosing a life partner, you must put the following things in place:

  • GENUINE CONVERSION– you must be genuinely converted, you must be truly born again.
  • YOU MUST BE FILLED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT: Baptism of the Holy Ghost is a must if you want all your choices to be directed by God.
  • PRAYER- you must be prayerful, committing your choices into the hands of God. You must stand against every manipulative power in you or your choices.
  • MATURITY- you must be matured physically, mentally, spiritually, emotionally, socially, temperamentally, vocationally, financially etc.
  • PATIENCE– you must be patient. If you rush into marriage, you may be crushed.
  • COUNSEL– no matter how anointed you are, you cannot see your back; you need people for counsel. Go for counsel before marriage.
  • GOD’S LEADING– Don’t just jump into marriage, let the Lord lead you. He will not lead you astray.
  • LOVE– you must love the person before you marry him/her. Love is the bedrock of any successful home.
  • GODLY CHARACTER– you need to build godly characters and deal with anger, pride, bitterness, stinginess, oversleeping, laziness, stubbornness, extravagancy, unforgiveness, malice, nagging etc.
