— The journey of Marriage is too long and great, we need to do all that is needed to do before we step into it
— 90% of what to do before Marriage is about you not about who you want to marry
— Most young adult are so busy pursuing relationship and marriage not knowing that there are many things to put in place to make their marriage work
— While choice making is very important, it is just one of many things to be done to make your marriage a pleasant one
— If you don’t do what you suppose to do but rush into marriage, you will set up yourself for a life time of agony in matrimony
THINGS TO DO BEFORE MARRIAGE
1) ACADEMIC DEVELOPMENT
Proverbs 24:3-4 KJV
[3] Through wisdom is an house builded; and by understanding it is established: [4] And by knowledge shall the chambers be filled with all precious and pleasant riches.
Pursue academic before you pursue marriage. GO TO SCHOOL
— Going to school gives you a leverage in life
— The higher you go in Schooling the better you can be in life
— Schooling gives you better knowledge, certificate and connections for better living
2) SELF DEVELOPMENT
Proverbs 27:18 KJV
[18] Whoso keepeth the fig tree shall eat the fruit thereof: so he that waiteth on his master shall be honoured.
Schooling is not enough, self development is needed
Schooling will end education continues
WHAT TO DO
Read quality books
Attend training
Attend seminars
Visit a mentor
The better you are as a person, the better you can be in life and marriage
3) CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT
Ephesians 4:22-24 KJV
[22] That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; [23] And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;
[24] And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.
— Develop great character
— Characters is the building block of marriage.
— There is no bad marriage anywhere, we only have two people with bad character hurting their marriages
— Your Character is your marriage, build Positive Character
4) CAREER DEVELOPMENT
Proverbs 24:27 KJV
[27] Prepare thy work without, and make it fit for thyself in the field; and afterwards build thine house.
Take time to build a Career path for yourself before you commit for marriage.
— your Career is the pay master of your marriage, Manage it well
5) POSITIVE CHOICE MAKING
Deuteronomy 30:19 KJV
[19] I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:
— Don’t choose like Esau who chose for the present without considering the future
— Don’t choose like Samson who chose for Passion that destroyed distinction
— Don’t Choose like Lot who chose base on the outlook only and got his fingers burnt in the process
— Don’t choose like Dinah who chose because she want to be like others and hurt herself
— Don’t choose like Judas who betrayed his lord because of financial gains, he lost his life in the process
— Don’t choose like Abigail who chose wicked Nabal because of his money
6) PREPARATION FOR MARRIAGE
Proverbs 30:25 KJV
[25] The ants are a people not strong, yet they prepare their meat in the summer;
When you are adequately prepared for marriage, you are adequately program for success in it
Preparation determines 30% of our marital success
You must prepare Physically, mentally, financially, spiritually, emotionally if your marriage must be a success
7) GET TO KNOW AND SERVE GOD
Joshua 22:5 KJV
[5] But take diligent heed to do the commandment and the law, which Moses the servant of the Lord charged you, to love the Lord your God, and to walk in all his ways, and to keep his commandments, and to cleave unto him, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul.
— Getting to know God personally before marriage will help your choice making
— Serving God will commit him to your matrimonial destiny
— Serve God with all your heart and resources
— Know him personally and develop a great relationship with him
