THE EXCELLENCY OF SUBMISSION
THE EXCELLENCY OF SUBMISSION
By Bisi Adewale
Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives 1 Peter 3:1, Ephesians 5:22-24, Titus 2:1-5; Colossians 3:17-18
It can also be seen as the act of allowing oneself to be instructed, corrected, led, taught and even rebuked. God is orderly (1 Cor. 14:40). Orderliness is the order of the day in his kingdom. It is his commandment that men should be the head of their home while the wives submit to them (Ephesians 5:22).
TYPES OF SUBMISSION
- God-ward submission. Both husband and wife must submit to God (Jas. 4:7).
- Mutual submission. (Eph. 5:21) Husband and wife should respect, honour, love and submit to each other. The husband is the head, but he must allow the wife to talk and correct him if needs be and, even influence his decisions. No husband is an island; no man must be a dictator.
- Wifely submission. (Eph. 5:22) Wives must willingly, lovingly and readily submit to their husbands as unto the Lord. No nagging, disobedience, strife, anger or stubbornness.
- Conditional submission. Some women do submit because of one particular thing they are targeting to receive from their husbands. They may submit just to get money, for instance.
- Plastic submission. This is a make-believe submission. The woman may do everything in the presence of the husband to depict submission. But in his absence, she does whatever she wants.
