9 THINGS YOU MUST NEVER DO AS YOU CHOOSE YOUR PARTNER

  1. Never fail to give your life to Christ. Embrace God and commit Him to your life.

  1.   Never commit fail to consult God before you choose. Don’t use your thoughts, consult your God. Pray! A prayerless single is a player on the field of marital failure.

  1. Never marry an unbeliever. If you marry an unbeliever, you will make the devil your father-in-law.

  1. Never marry the ‘Container’ but the ‘Content’. Many singles got married to outward appearance (beauty) without considering the character of the fellow.

If you do not involve God in choosing a life partner, your choice will be based on your the “Container”. Only God can show you the “Content”. Go back to God who knows the end from the beginning. A good husband or wife is like a golden fish in a deep and dark ocean. It takes the eyes of God to see them.

  1. Never give God specifications of a spouse. Do not make the mistake of giving specifications of height, colour, age, background, place of origin, educational background, wealth, etc. Sometimes what we think is good for us may not be good after all, what we think is the best for us may even be the worst if we compare it to what God has in store for us. (1 Corinthians 2:9-16). The realization that God’s choice for you is the best might not go the way you want but as many people who dared to surrender their will and embrace God’s will always have a reason to thank the Lord. God’s thought towards you is and it is best if we embrace it without reservation. That slim lady may not be God’s choice, that rich man may not be the best for you. Allow God to have His way. LET GO AND LET GOD.

  1. Never place God on a fleece. To place a fleece means- to place a condition on God. Fleece was only used in the Old Testaments by Eleazer in Genesis 24:13-14 and by Gideon in Judges 6. God attended to them through fleece because the Holy Spirit was not yet dwelling with man. Fleece is not permitted in the New Testament. For you to tell God that “If you are the one leading me to that brother; let him come to the choir practice on Saturday”, when you know that the brother is a dedicated choir member and the possibilities of him not coming is just 10% is a wrong approach. A brother said if a particular sister is His wife let her be part of the choir member who will handle the praise worship on Sunday. All these are funny and just shows how shallow we are spiritually. Those who placed God on a fleece in the Bible asked for something that will require a miracle (which can only be done by God)

It takes a miracle for a young lady to offer water to a man and ten camels, a very thirsty camel can drink more than seven buckets of water). It was not the lady’s decision but God who was working behind the scene. (Genesis 24:1-20).

It takes a miracle to have water on wool alone when everywhere is dry and to have water everywhere where the wool is dry (Joshua 6). Fleece is even much more difficult than hearing from God; it is easier for a matured Christian to hear from God, than for anyone to get to know the way through fleece. It can be deceptive, run away from it. Let the Lord lead you, let Him direct you (Rom. 8:14).

  1.   Never fail to be patient. “For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done, the will of God, ye might receive the promise. “For a little while, and he that shall come will come and will not tarry”. (Hebrews 10:36-37). Don’t ever be in haste, slow down, wait for God, God will definitely satisfy you.

  1. Never fail to seek counsel. Don’t go into that relationship without counsel.

For by wise counsel thou shall make thy war, and in multitude of counselors; there is safety” (Proverbs 24:6) Good counsel will prevent you from making mistakes as you learn from older, better, godly and more experienced people.

  1. Never be desperate. You are likely going to make terrible mistakes if you are too desperate to get married. Don’t show any desperation; let the Lord have His way. Be calm; God is working in your favour.
