THE IMPORTANCE OF FAMILY PLANNING (CHILD SPACING).

Family planning (child spacing) refers to the factors that may be considered by a couple in a committed relationship and each individual involved in deciding if and when to have children. Though rarely articulated, family planning may involve consideration of the number of children a couple wish to have as well as the age at which they wish to have them. These matters are obviously influenced by external factors such as marital situation, career considerations, financial position, any disabilities that may affect their ability to have children and raise them, besides many other considerations. If sexually active, family planning may involve the use of contraception and other techniques to control the timing of reproduction. Other techniques commonly used include sexuality education, prevention and management of sexually transmitted infections, pre-conception counseling and management, and infertility management.

Family planning is sometimes used as a synonym or euphemism for the use of contraception. However, it often involves methods and practices in addition to contraception. It is most usually applied to a female-male couple who wish to limit the number of children they have and/or to control the timing of pregnancy (also known as spacing children).  Family planning services are defined as “educational, comprehensive medical or social activities which enable individuals, including minors, to determine freely the number and spacing of their children and to select the means by which this may be achieved”.

However, child spacing involves the agreement of both party involved (the couple) and should not be carryout or decided by one party.

More importantly it is advisable to see your doctor or a medical practitioner for advice or couseling on the type that will be suitable for your family as there are different types of child spacing method.

Below is a scenario of a family which I will like to share with you and also like to hear your opinion.

A young family, the man(35 years old) and the wife(29 years old) just discovered that they are going to have a 3rd baby in no distant time….she already had 2 kids….the problem now is that the second child is barely 5 months old and she is now anticipating another baby…she is seriously angry with the husband for putting her in this way and also contemplating abortion while citing some issues like breastfeeding the 2nd baby while she is 2 months pregnant saying that it is not good for the 2nd child….
The husband is lost because he doesn’t know what to do…either to abort or to keep the baby…(the pressure is much from so many advisers and Also from the wife to abort)
