SUBMISSION IN MARRIAGE

SUBMISSION IN MARRIAGE-“Wives, likewise be submissive to your own husbands, that; even if some do not obey the word, they without word, may be won by the conduct of their wives”. 1 Pet.3:1

Ephesians 5:22-24, Titus 2:1-5; Colossians 3:17-18;;)

Submission in marriage is the act of accepting another power or authority. It could also be called obedience or humility. It can also be seen as the act of allowing oneself to be instructed, corrected, led, taught and even rebuked; an act of losing one’s right willingly when it is in your power to fight for it.

God is a God of order (1 Cor. 14:40). Orderliness is the order of the day in His kingdom. It is His commandment that men should be the head of their home while the wives should submit to them.

(Ephesians 5:22).

TYPES OF SUBMISSION

  1. God-ward submission. Both husband and wife must submit to God.(Jas. 4:7)
  2. Mutual Submission. (Eph. 5:21) Husband and wife should respect, honour, love and submit to each other. The husband is the head, but he must allow the wife to talk to him, correct him if needs be and even influence his decisions. No husband is an island; men must not be a dictator.
  3. Wifely Submission. (Eph. 5:22) Wifely submission in marriage means that wives should be ready to willingly, lovingly and totally submit to their husbands as unto the Lord. No nagging, disobedience, strife, anger or stubbornness
  4. Conditional submission. Some women do submit because of one particular thing they are targeting from the man, they may exhibit submission in marriage just to get money from their husbands
  5. Plastic submission. This is a make-believe submission. The woman may do everything in the presence of the husband to depict submission. But in his absence, she does whatever she wants.
  6. Forced submission. A woman may submit because she was forced to do it. But in the heart of her heart, she has not submitted.
  7. Public submission. Some women pretend to be submissive to their husbands in the public but treat them with disdain at home
  8. Zero submission. Some women are not submissive at all. They are stubborn, proud, quarrelsome, rebellions, contentious, fastidious, disobedient and difficult.
  9. Third party submission. Some women are so submissive to other men like their bosses, pastors, neighbours or even their in-laws but are not submissive to their own husband.
  10. Total submission. Some godly women are submissive to their husbands in everything. Their submission is total and sincere in both public and private life.
