Earlier, I told you the story of Derek Redmond who fell during the 1992 Barcelona Olympics but decided to finish the race.

As the medical crew arrived with a stretcher, Derek said, “There’s no way I’m getting on that stretcher. I’m going to finish my race.”

In a stadium packed with 65 thousand fans and with millions viewing around the world, Derek slowly struggled to his feet. In spite of the agonizing pain, he began hobbling towards the finish line in last place.

Though last in the race, he was first in the heart of the people. Tears streamed down his face and his heart was filled with disappointment. Yet, he was determined to finish the race and he did finish.

Marriage at times may cause pains and disappointments, maybe you are thinking you didn’t marry right. No, I don’t think so. A new spouse with your present attitude to life will only get you the same result.

Learn to think right, learn to talk right, learn to act right, give your marriage the attention it deserves, it’s a race that needs gut and persistence. Emotion is not enough to make it a success, you need determination. Nobody says it will be easy but I promise you it is worth the try.

In marriage, you need forgiveness and trust. When you don’t feel the butterfly again in your tummy, forgiveness and trust will keep you going. When you feel like calling it quit; remember you said it’s till death do you part.  Common, you are not yet dead, don’t give up now! Always remember that marriage is a Race!
