Effect Of Infidelity On Marriage

Infidelity means sexual unfaithfulness to one’s spouse. It means to have sex with someone else apart from one’s marriage partner. It is the reason many marriages crash today, destroying the fabric of matrimony and family. It also has a deadly effect on the children. So, infidelity affects the whole family not just the Couples.
CAUSES OF INFIDELITY
- Lack of the fear of God (Rev. 14:7)
- Lack of contentment (1 Tim.6:6)
- Lack of commitment to marriage vows
- Lack of sexual fulfillment (Prov. 5:19)
- Unholy curiosity
- Wrong association (Prov. 31:6)
- Drunkenness (Prov. 31:6)
- Misuse of drugs
- Unnecessary closeness to someone (opposite sex) apart from one’s spouse (Prov. 31:3)
- Lust, pornography, unholy books and magazines, blue films and sexy home videos
HOW TO STAY FAITHFUL TO YOUR SPOUSE
- Decide and be committed to the fact that you will never have extra-marital affairs.
- Do not keep or allow secret sexual feelings and fantasies to go unaddressed.
- Focus all sexual fantasies intentionally on your spouse.
- Set limits. Don’t share intimate details of your relationship with friends of the opposite sex.
- Do not permit an intimate friendship with an opposite sex to grow beyond boundaries.
- Do not be intimately friendly with the opposite sex; this could be a colleague, classmate, committee member, church member and so on.
- Be patient with your mate on what constitutes appropriate behaviour.
- Pay attention to your feelings. Stop anything that may give the wrong impression.
- Build a network of godly friends (to whom you are accountable) who know you well enough to identify a change in your behaviour, attitude and who can pull you back from the precipice.
- Never think you are not vulnerable. Maintain close friendship with people of the same sex as well as with godly and faithful couples.
