AGENTS OF CHARACTER

“He that walketh with wise men shall be wise, but a companion of fools shall be destroyed”. Proverbs 13:20.
Character agents are those things that aid our character formation. They affect our thoughts, change our belief system, our values, behavior, habits and character, thereby making people to know us for what we are known for good character to be developed and bad one broken these agents must be handled with wisdom. They are:
- Where will live is very important to our character development. A child living in slim is always different from a child that grows in highbrow area environment is very important.
- Our academics background,, the school we attend, the course we study, etc is also part of our character development.
- We can go to the same school and have different level of exposure. Somebody that attended several training, worships, seminars after schooling will definitely be different in character from somebody that stop learning after schooling.
- Our experiences in life, what we went through, and all we encounter in life are all things that can combine together to affect or mould our character.
- Who we serve and our relationship with our God is a big factor in our character development.
- You are likely going to pick a whole chuck of your friend’s habit and character either good or bad. That is why the Bible warns us not to make angry men our friends lest we pick their behaviours. This also affects every other behaviors and habits.
- Books and behaviours. They inform us, they can also deform us, it all depends on the kind of books and magazines we read.
- Radio/television. Like books and magazine, radio and television can inform and deform our character. We can be both positively and negatively influence by them. Televisions are even more powerful as it combines the power of hearing with sight to capture us.
