7 WRONG REASONS FOR MARRIAGE

Many people want to get married for various reasons but some of these reasons are wrong. I will expose some of them so that they do not form your decisions on marriage. They can only produce a marriage with regrets.

1. Gift: “He (she) who is greedy for gain, troubles his own house, but he whohates gift will live”. (Proverbs 15:27). Never marry a man or woman because of what you are getting from him or her. Gift blindfolds; please run away from it because that gift may eventually be a “Greek gift”. (Proverbs 15:27)

2. Money: The love of money is the root of all evil. (1 Timothy 6:10). Never marry somebody because of his or her wealth. MONEY may turn into MOURNING if that is your main reason to marry.Never trade your destiny with present pleasure, it is dangerous.

3. Election: Never allow your marriage to be based on “election”. People around you may encourage you to marry a particular person for one reason or the other. Never decide without consulting God because it might be dangerous. The majority may not necessarily carry the vote in marriage. Marriage isnot by election, it is by revelation.

4. Selection:This is a situation whereby without consulting God, you just decide to check out all the brothers or sisters available one after the other to know which one you could marry. This is your way of selecting the “best”candidate by trial and by error. This is wrong; marriage is not by selection it is by 

5. Beauty: “Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing, but a woman who fears the Lords, she shall be praised”. (Proverbs 31:30) Do not marry a person because of his or her physical appearance because beauty will fade, you will know reality later.

6. Business:Some people decided to get married because they have been good business partners. A good business partner may not be a good life-partner, allow God to lead you.

7. Position:Many get married to some people because of the person’s present position. For example, almost all sisters in the fellowship will desire to marry the president of their fellowship.
