KEYS TO A VIBRANT PRAYER LIFE

Bisi Adewale

“Not slothful in business, FERVENT IN THE SPIRIT, serving the Lord.

Rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, CONTINUING INSTANT IN PRAYER.”

Vibrant prayer life is the will of God for all Men.

In fact, consistent prayer life is God’s commandment. “Pray without ceasing……” 1 Thessa. 5:17 “….

GOD COMMANDED MEN TO PRAY

“Men ought always to pray and not to faint”. Luke 18:1

Note that for you to become a “man” in the spirit; you must pray.

— Spiritual maturity is hinged on prayers that are constant without fainting.

— Perpetual spiritual infancy as suckling babes is an embarrassment to God Almighty.

WHY YOU MUST PRAY

“Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.”

James 5:16 KJV

— Your Christian walk will be sick and ineffective unless you get up to pray.

 — Prayer is the soul of any Christian experience.

 — If you don’t pray regularly, you will die gradually.

— You can never over-pray, you can only under-pray. If you under-pray, you will be underpaid.

— Prayers can make you strong, hot, sizzling and effective in your journey to the kingdom of God.

— To go far in life, go out to pray. To go up in life, go down to pray.

— To be a public success, you must be a private prayer man.

— All those people God used in the past were all people of prayer.

— Prayer cannot be out of season, it is all-season miracle medicine.

— It is an open ministry; everybody is called into it. It is time to pray if we desire to win.

HOW TO MAINTAIN A VIBRANT

To maintain a vibrant prayer life and remain spiritual dynamite, you must do the following:

  1. Genuine Conversion:Boldness to access God comes in the place of genuine conversion. It strengthens you to linger in His presence and causes your prayers to be answered because God doesn’t listen to the prayer of sinners. (John 9:31, Proverbs 15:29)

  1. Word of God:If you want a vibrant prayer life, you must be a lover of the word of God. Be consistent with the word; read, study and memorize it. Meditate upon it and do it (Joshua 1:8).

  1. Determination:Prayer needs more nerve than is required to sit glued to the TV. You need to make up your mind that you want to pray and get up to pray.

  1. Consistency:You don’t become prayerful by praying haphazardly. You become prayerful by praying “without ceasing”. I prefer that you pray 30 minutes daily than praying 9 hours a day and not praying again for many weeks.

  1. Discipline:If you are given to a careless life, “anything goes”- the life of gluttony, drunkenness, partying, television watching life, etc, you won’t become a spiritual giant.

  1. Accountability:Get accountable to somebody who can ask you how you are doing spiritually. This person should be able to caution you when you are ‘driving’ your life dangerously.

  1. Praying:You can’t become prayerful by talking about prayer, by reading about it, by planning for it or even teaching people. You only become prayerful by praying. To be strong on your knees, all you need to do is to pray.

  1. Attend prayer meetings: To maintain a vibrant prayer life, attend prayer meetings, pray with other people, be involved in the prayer work.

  1. Love God:Prayers become difficult when you see it as a task, rather than a relationship. It may appear burdensome if viewed as a commandment instead of communication with an all-powerful lover. Nurture your love to be in the presence of God, enjoy intimacy with Him, and bring your prayer life to a communication level; a discussion between lovers.

  1. Selflessness:A self-centred attitude blocks the passage of strength to you because you will not be able to pray a loving and deep prayer. Hence, learn to pray for pastors, missionaries, pregnant women, widows, people in Governments, sinners in your family and neighborhood. Make a list of people you want to pray for before praying.
  2. Planning:Make prayers a part of your daily plans. Make plans regarding when to sleep and when to wake up. How long you want to pray, etc. This is very important as it shows your level of seriousness.

  1. Prayer Journal:Keep a prayer journal where you write a list of people you want to pray for and their prayer points. Your prayer needs should also be written down; this will give you direction in prayers.

  1. Prayer Partners: You can also keep same-sex prayer partners. Meet them regularly, pray together, consistently and form an accountability partnership.

  1. Spirit of Prayer:Ask God for the spirit of prayer and supplication. The spirit of prayer will help you to pray and pray right. “Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, this is the word of the Lord unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit saith the lord of hosts. Zechariah 4:6

  1. Anointing to Pray:Anointing makes the work easy for believers; any spiritual work without anointing takes double effort.

  1. Prayer Thirst and Hunger:Pray until you start to desire to pray the way you desire your necessary food and water. It takes hunger to pray consistently.

  1. Prayer Addiction:It takes grace to get addicted to prayers like Daniel who prays three times daily. The addiction did not allow him to rest even when there was a decree that forbade prayer, risking his own life.

“Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house;

and his window being open in chamber towards Jerusalem, he kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed and gave thanks before God as is his custom”.

(Daniel 6:10)

  1. Praises:Take time to worship God anytime you pray. This brings down the presence of God and makes your praying time easier and enjoyable.

  1. Ask for the spirit of God to pray for you.

  1. Pray in the spirit at least 60 minutes daily.

  1. Keep a record of what God has done through your prayer.

  1. Listen to messages that encourage you to pray.

  1. Read books that inspire prayers.

  1. Don’t postpone prayer, pray now

  1. STAND UP NOW wherever you are and pray
