I was shocked when a woman walked into my office with a swollen face and bloodied mouth. I thought she got the injury in an accident or an armed robbery attack.

It took her a few minutes before she could gather herself to talk to me.

“He beat me! Yes, he beat me. He showed the monster in him. He beat me!’’ She said as she burst into tears again.

“Who beat you?” I asked with a caring look of a counsellor.

She looked at me and said, “Deacon. Deacon beat me.‘’

“Deacon Desmond, your husband, beat you? That can’t be true. He is a complete gentleman!” I replied, surprised and worried.

Deacon Desmond was like a big brother to me. He supported me when our ministry just started. He was known to be very cool and gentle. He could not bite a finger… well, so I thought until the day his wife showed up in my office with bruises.

Later, the woman narrated how her husband refused to give her the money she demanded. After telling her friends about this, they advised her to serve him his food when he returned from work and then ask for the money while he ate his food. They also advised her to threaten to throw the food away if he did not give her the money. She got home and heeded her friends’ advice. She got the beating of her life in the process.

Between Mr and Mrs Desmond, something is missing here. Mr Desmond lacks it. Mrs Desmond is in dire need of it, and that is the number one key to a successful and super marriage. It is called wisdom.
