Marriage is one of the most important decisions anyone will ever make. Yet, many people prepare more seriously for their careers, businesses, or academic pursuits than they do for marriage. Love is important, but love alone is not enough to build a successful home. Entering marriage without adequate preparation is like setting sail on a long journey without a map or compass.
A novice enters marriage with unrealistic expectations, believing that love will automatically solve every problem. Reality soon reveals that marriage requires patience, communication, sacrifice, emotional maturity, financial wisdom, and a commitment to continual growth. Couples who are unprepared often struggle not because they married the wrong person, but because they entered marriage without the right knowledge and skills.
Before saying "I do," invest time in learning. Read quality books on marriage, attend premarital counseling, seek wisdom from experienced couples, and have honest conversations about finances, children, values, careers, faith, and conflict resolution. Preparation does not eliminate challenges, but it equips you to handle them wisely.
