10 REQUIREMENTS FOR JOINT ACCOUNT

  • Bisi Adewale

Before any married couple can run a joint account, the following things must be in place continually:

–          Trust. You must trust your partner.

–          Willingness. It must be done willingly; don’t force your partner into it.

–          Conviction. You must be convinced in your heart that it is the best for you.

–          Commitment. Both of you should be committed to it.

–          Communication. There must be openness and transparency.

–          Fear of God. You must be sure that your partner fears the Lord.

–          Mutual respect. You must respect each other.

–          Love. You must be sure you are deeply in love with each other.

–          Faithfulness. You must also be sure your spouse is faithful not immoral.

–          Diligence. Don’t ever have a joint account with a lazy man or woman who is not ready to work. That will end up becoming bondage.

–          Joint account is good; it is the best form of accounting system in any Christian family, but there is no hard and fast rule about how it should be run. Choose any way you know suits both of you. The most important thing about management of money in marriage is total openness, transparency, unity and mutual agreement.
