HOW TO ENHANCE FERTILITY OF A CHRISTIAN COUPLE (PART 1)
By Gbenro Falohun
The hope of every couple is to be able to conceive and bear a child and/or children of their own. It is almost natural to expect a baby emanate from a marriage after some months of conjugal, say 10 months, 13 months, 15 months as the case may be. After all, one (not sole) purpose of marriage as designed by God is for pro-creation. Sadly, in more recent times, lots of couples are faced with the challenge of infertility. The rate of infertility among couples in our generation, particularly among Christian believers is really worrisome.
Global statistics shows 20%-30% of married couples are affected with infertility issue. According to World Health Organisation (WHO), 1 out of every 4 couples in developing countries is directly affected by infertility.
As a child of God, you should not be part of this statistics. God loves children! Fertility and children were always viewed as blessings in the Bible. It is not God’s will to withhold any blessing from you. Psalm 127:3-5 “Children are a gift from the LORD; they are a reward from him. Children born to a young man are like arrows in a warrior’s hands. How joyful is the man whose quiver is full of them! He will not be put to shame when he confronts his accusers at the city gates.”
Psalm 113:9 “He gives the childless woman a family, making her a happy mother. Praise the LORD!”
The promises of God are ever sure, His words are “Yeah and Amen!” Your time of rejoicing is just around the corner, hold on tight to your faith, the break you have been looking for is about to happen. So, what do you have to do?
- HAVE FAITH AND BE MORE COMMITTED TO GOD: No mistaken about the number one thing you need to do to boost your chances – FAITH! No matter how long you have been waiting to have a baby, we guess is not as long as that of Abraham and Sarah and you are not as old as they were when God rewarded their faith and commitment with a gift of the promised child and in as much as you are a descendant of Abraham, you share in the covenanted promises of God to Him. Galatians 3:29,Galatians 3:9 “Now that you belong to Christ, you are the true children of Abraham. You are his heirs, and now all the promises God gave to him belong to you.” Deuteronomy 7:14 “You shall be blessed above all peoples; there shall not be a male or female barren among you or among your livestock.” Your promise child is on the way, do not loose faith.
- KNOW YOUR OVULATION PERIOD: Surprisingly, most couple do not know their ovulation period, even most women do not know. A woman can only get pregnant when her egg meets with the sperm of a man and the egg is normally released once a month. The art of the ovary releasing the egg is what is called ovulation. Doctors call this period “fertile Window.” This takes place between 10-16 days after the mensural circle. The days differ among women but God is so gracious so much that he designed the body of a woman to give a sign of ovulation. At this period the virgina produces mucor-like substances, temperature also increases slightly. These are signs that the woman’s body is ripe for fertilization. Aside any other factors, the chances of the couple conceiving at this period is very high.
- REDUCE STRESS: Stress is one of the major factor hampering the chances of most couples from conceiving. People that live a daily stressful life are more likely to have infertility issues. According to Alice Domar, PhD, executive director of the Domar Center for Mind/Body Health at Boston IVF, more and more research seems to confirm a link between stress, anxiety, depression, and infertility. Look at it this way, when stressed out, most couple won’t probably have sex as often which is a pretty obvious fertility derailment. When stressed, you are most likely to have to take something refreshing like soft drink which actually have negative impact on conception. For some women, chronic stress can affect ovulation by altering signals to the hypothalamus, the center of the brain that regulates some of the hormones that trigger the ovaries to release eggs each month. Women under nonstop stress may ovulate less regularly, making it more difficult to plan baby-making for the exact window when they’re most fertile. Some research shows that stress may also affect testosterone levels and sperm production in men. So much to talk about on stress but that would be a whole topic for discussion. We move to the next point…
- GOOD DIET: It’s almost become a cliché that diet, exercise and lifestyle choices affect how long you’ll live, the health of your heart, the odds you’ll develop cancer and a host of other health-related issues. Is fertility on this list? The answer to that question has long been a qualified “maybe,” based on conventional wisdom—and almost no science. Farmers, ranchers and animal scientists know more about how nutrition affects fertility in cows, pigs and other commercially important animals than fertility experts know about how it affects reproduction in humans. Diet plays a pivotal role in our biological make-up thus if you are not eating right, a part of you start to die! Did you notice the relationship between diet and die? Again, this is another broad topic that cannot be squeezed in here. There are indeed foods that boost fertility chances like avocado, pawpaw, coconut milk, banana, plantain etc Avoid consuming toxic foods such as processed foods and drinks, sugary drinks etc
Beloved, you are not barren! The devil cannot steal your joy with ignorance, grace of God has made you to know some truth. The steps to your breakthrough are but very simple: Faith, Timing of Sex, Reduction of Stress and Good Diet others include exercise, weight control, lifestyle change etc. which we will discuss in our next article.
Till we come your way again, we encourage you to keep hope alive.
